What is Softball?

Softball is a field sport that uses a diamond similar to Baseball, its just a bit smaller and it uses a bigger ball. The ball is thrown and the batter hits the ball and endeavours to run the diamond and touch the bases and get home before the fielders get the ball back to the bases or home. There are many rules but basically you hit the ball and run and beat the ball home to score a run. It is game that is accessible to everyone.

Both our Softball Assocaitions focus of female softball and offer the development of a love of social sport and also the opportunity to play competitive sport.

Softball is a fun and relaxed sport that teaches teamwork, camaraderie, leadership, resilience and a love of the game. Girls can start playing when they are six and keep playing well into their sixties! We currently have a ladies team who have been playing together for over 15 years! The Blue Tits Ladies have won their grand final three seasons in a row over the last few years, and even though they play for the love of the sport, playing well with your friends and then taking out the trophy is the icing on the cake!

Softball in the junior grade is called tee ball and modball and both are available to boys and girls. North Shore District is also offering a new Junior boys competition starting in Winter 2025 Softball offers the opportunity to make new friends and get out in the open air and participate in an active sport or take it further to a level where you are representing your state or even your country! Softball puts a smile on that sticks!

Thornleigh Softball Club is a small club that is part of the Thornleigh Sports & Recreation Club Inc. 

We offer softball at both Hornsby District Softball Association for Summer Softball and North Shore District Softball Association for Winter Softball.

Thornleigh Winter Softball at William Cowan Oval St Ives run through North Shore District Softball Association.
